SUNDANSE

01 SUNDANSE is a Horizon Europe project developing an integrated and sustainable sediment management framework for the Danube–Black Sea system.

The project combines hydrological modelling, sediment quality assessment, monitoring technologies and data-driven decision-support tools to strengthen river basin governance and resilience.

Within the Danube-Data platform, SUNDANSE contributes structured, interoperable and FAIR-aligned datasets supporting scientific analysis, modelling, forecasting and policy development.

Project Objectives

SUNDANSE aims to:

  • Develop harmonised sediment management methodologies across Danube use cases
  • Improve hydrological and sediment modelling capacity
  • Support evidence-based policy and decision-making
  • Enable cross-border data interoperability and reuse

Project Period

2024–2028

Data Scope

Datasets within this group may include:

  • Hydrological measurements (water levels, discharge, modelling inputs)
  • Sediment quantity and transport data
  • Sediment quality and contaminant analyses
  • Monitoring station records
  • Numerical model inputs and outputs
  • Metadata records

Data Governance & FAIR Alignment

Datasets are described using structured metadata to ensure:

  • Findability (clear naming conventions and tagging)
  • Accessibility (transparent access conditions)
  • Interoperability (standardised formats, CRS and temporal metadata)
  • Reusability (documentation, licensing and provenance information)

Depending on the dataset, access may be:

  • Open
  • Restricted to project partners
  • Metadata-only
